History of Capalonga, Camarines Norte

Capalonga, Camarines Norte began as an Indigenous coastal settlement and later became a Spanish Catholic mission. Founded as a parish in 1634, it is now known for its Black Nazarene devotion, Tagalog culture, fishing, agriculture, and Indigenous heritage.

History

History of Local Government and Municipal Officials of Capalonga, Camarines Norte

Since its establishment as a separate parish in 1634, the Municipality of Capalonga has been governed by a succession of local leaders whose roles evolved alongside the changing political systems of the Philippines. During the Spanish colonial period (1634–1898), the municipality was administered by gobernadorcillos, who served as the highest local officials responsible for maintaining peace and order, collecting taxes, supervising public works, and implementing colonial policies.
